Hi, I’m Claudya and I am the owner of The Dog-Go Zoomies! I grew up in the city of Alexandria my whole life. I’ve attended James K. Polk, Francis C. Hammond and Minnie Howard. I graduated from T.C. Williams High School in 2016, now known as Alexandria City High School. After secondary school, I attended Virginia Commonwealth University and pursued a degree in Business Information Systems.

2019 was the year my family began our journey into fostering. We’ve opened our home to over 70 rescues. We also have three foster fails of our own: Tofu, Betty and Biggie. Fostering has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. I especially cherish working with rescues who need rehabilitation. I can’t describe the feeling of seeing a dog find new joy in life when they had all but given up. Even more, it fills my heart when we find them a loving fur-ever home.

The reason I started The Dog-Go Zoomies is to build connections and create a sense of community. I believe I can contribute my experience and skills to help my neighbors. Not only is it a combination of my love for dogs as well as staying active, but I also will get the opportunity to establish relationships within my neighborhood. I am ecstatic to meet those who hold that special place in your heart and provide them with a safe and loving environment that encourages them to unleash their zoomie potential. While I may not have a gym buddy to drag me to workout but I do have a new best friend who will go the distance with me. I am also really excited to expand my canine knowledge and expertise! The more I am able to learn about how different dogs behave, as well as their interests, habits, and needs, will allow me to care for them better.

Training is something I am fond of and often incorporate in dog walks. I believe that positive reinforcement and treats are the best way to win over a dog’s heart. It is also my belief that working on their training will result in a more rewarding walk experience that makes it both enjoyable for you and them. As they say, “practice makes perfect” and I cannot wait to see the progress we make together!

Apart from my passion for dogs, I also am interested in cooking, photography, gaming, and variety of crafts. I enjoy spending my time with family, friends and my significant other. I love going to the movies and traveling to new places. My all-time favorite trip I have ever taken is the time I studied abroad in Spain. I would say that the best way to describe me a kid-at-heart. I can recite Disney movies and songs by heart, and I also have a collection of stuffed animals that overwhelmingly take up too much space in my bed. But of course, I am willing to make room for a new furry cuddle buddy!

My foster journey

Fostering is a heartwarming journey that creates a win-win situation for both dogs in need and their temporary caregivers. When you open your home to a furry friend, you're not just providing shelter; you're giving them love, stability, and a chance to thrive while they await their furever home. Each wag, bark, and playful zoomie brings joy and purpose as you bond with your four-legged companion, helping them to learn trust and gain confidence. Plus, fostering helps reduce overcrowding in shelters, giving more dogs a fighting chance at a happy life. It’s a selfless act that fills your heart with warmth and your home with wagging tails and puppy kisses! If you want a glimpse into the life as a foster, check out some of my favorite moments below 🐶
